Mars square Neptune means your drive keeps getting dissolved by doubt, fantasy, or the wish to avoid a confrontation, so action stalls and anger goes underground. It also trains a rare kind of strength, because you have to build a will instead of inheriting one.

## The hook

You know what you want, right up until the moment it would require you to say so out loud.

## What it looks like in a life

Neptune holds a sign for about fourteen years, so that sign belongs to a generation. The square to your Mars is what makes it personal. You start things with real conviction and lose the thread halfway. You avoid the direct conversation and pay for it in resentment. Your energy is unreliable in a way doctors have often not explained. You have been taken advantage of by people who read your kindness correctly and your boundaries wrong. Anger does not come out as anger. It comes out as illness, exhaustion, sarcasm, or a slow disappearance from someone's life. Escape has a hold on you, whatever form yours takes.

## The gift

You had to build a will out of nothing, so the one you end up with is chosen rather than inherited, and that makes it durable. You can act without needing to dominate anyone, which is rare and makes people safe around you. You fight best for something larger than yourself. When you do finally move on your own behalf, it holds, because you did not move until you meant it.

## The friction

The loop: you want something, the wanting feels selfish, you blur it, you go along, you resent it, and the resentment leaves through a side door where nobody can answer it. Confusion is the defense. As long as you are not sure what you want, you never have to risk asking for it. The cost is years, and a body that keeps the tab.

## The esoteric layer

The square is a quarter of the circle, the number four, the cross of matter. Bailey's esoteric astrology says the crosses indicate process and points of crisis, which puts the hard aspect at the center of development rather than at the site of the damage. Mars in that system is the battlefield of the desire nature. Neptune belongs to no ancient tradition, having been discovered in 1846. Modern doctrine gives it dissolution and glamour, and Bailey's lineage calls it sacred and devotional. This square grinds the personal will against the wish to disappear until the will becomes real.

## Where this goes

The houses involved say where the will first got dissolved and where that keeps happening now. That is the exact material a therapeutic astrology session works with, and it moves once it is named.
