house: 8
answer: >
Mercury in the 8th house means your mind goes where other people stop: money that is shared, power that is unspoken, sex, death, and what is really going on underneath. You do not take the surface version of anything, and you would rather know the hard truth than a comfortable one.

## The hook

You heard the sentence, and then you heard what it was covering.

## What it looks like in a life

You ask the question at dinner that changes the temperature of the table. You research things most people avoid: the diagnosis, the will, the true cost, the thing that happened in the family that nobody names. You are the one handling the paperwork after a death. You know everyone's secrets and tell none of them. You read people for motive automatically, and you are right often enough to trust it, which is its own risk. You are drawn to psychology, the occult, investigations, anything with a hidden layer. Small talk exhausts you inside of two minutes. And you have stayed up until three reading about something dark and felt calmer afterward, not worse.

## The gift

You can stay in a conversation that everyone else flees. That makes you the person called when the news is bad, and you do not flinch or fill the silence with nonsense. You understand money that involves other people: debt, inheritance, what a contract really says. And you can name a thing out loud and take away most of its power.

## The friction

The same mind that finds the truth also manufactures it. You read a delay as a betrayal, build the case in your head overnight, and arrive at breakfast already holding a verdict. You investigate people who have not done anything. Information becomes control, and control becomes the way you avoid trusting anyone. And the digging can go on for years without ever turning into a change.

## The esoteric layer

In the Hellenistic system the eighth place was the house of death, and the old sources also called it idle, a place with no clean view of the rising sign. Mercury there takes up the role the Greeks named him for first. Hermes was the psychopomp, the one who walked the dead across and came back. The alchemists kept the same idea in the metal: quicksilver, the solvent that dissolves a thing so it can become something else. Your mind was built for that passage. It goes to what is ending and finds the language for it.

## Where this goes

The sign on this Mercury says how the digging runs, and Pluto's aspects say what it keeps circling. A therapeutic astrology session is where that gets worked, not just understood.
