Neptune in the 4th house means the ground under you was never solid: your family story has fog in it, and you carry a longing for a home you cannot locate. Something in the private base of your life was felt rather than explained.

## The hook

You have been homesick inside your own house.

## What it looks like in a life

Neptune's sign belongs to everyone born across those years. The house is what makes it personal. Ask about your childhood and you produce images rather than events. One parent was there and not there: away, unwell, drinking, grieving, or simply somewhere else behind their eyes. You were told a family story that later turned out to be partly built, and nobody acted surprised. You moved often, or you stayed put and still never felt rooted. You have idealized a parent who did not earn it and cannot fully say why. You need your home quiet, dim, and sealed off, and your body tells you when it is not.

## The gift

You make a place where other people can finally let go. You know how to build a room that works as sanctuary, and people arrive at your door already exhaling. You carry compassion for your family that most people cannot manage toward theirs, because you can feel what they were carrying. And your private life has a depth in it that nobody outside ever gets to see.

## The friction

The fog protects you and it costs you. You cannot get a clear look at what happened, so you cannot put it down, and the unnamed version keeps running underneath your adult life. You excuse the people who hurt you by feeling their pain instead of your own. And you keep looking for a home that was never a place.

## The esoteric layer

Neptune was discovered in 1846, so the ancient tradition says nothing about it. The line that does speak here is Alice Bailey's, and it is modern. She names Neptune a sacred planet, a carrier of the sixth ray of devotion, and the esoteric ruler of Cancer, the sign of the root, which makes the base of the chart its natural ground. Her reading of that base is the taproot into inherited material. With Neptune there, what you inherited is not solid. It is atmospheric, which is why you can feel it and never point at it.

## Where this goes

The condition of the Moon and the ruler of your fourth house say what actually happened and what belongs to you now. A therapeutic astrology session is built to work through that at a pace that does not flood you.
