Mercury landing in Venus's room is the oldest Hermes story in the tradition. The Homeric hymn has him inventing the lyre on the day he was born, out of a tortoise shell, and then trading it away. That is this placement exactly. The mind makes something out of whatever is lying around, and the making is the point before the keeping is.
