Pluto moved through Taurus from 1853 to 1884 and does not return until late in this century, so this is not a living person's placement. If it turns up in a chart, you are reading a historical figure or a mistyped birth year. In the charts of that generation it showed as people who held on: land kept through a war, money buried instead of banked, a body worked until it broke. They rebuilt after loss without complaint and without speed. A person with this placement measures safety in things they can touch, and a threat to those things registers as a threat to life itself.
The gift
Endurance is not a small gift. Pluto in Taurus does not panic and does not quit, and it will outlast whatever came to take the thing it values. Where other placements rebuild fast and badly, this one rebuilds slowly and for good. Give it rubble and enough years and it makes something solid enough to hand down.
The friction
It stays too long. A job, a house, a marriage, a set of beliefs: all of it gets kept past the point where holding costs more than leaving. Possession and love blur, and so do security and control. Loss arrives anyway, because that is Pluto's method, and refusing to let go only makes the ending louder.
The esoteric layer
No ancient astrologer wrote about Pluto. It was discovered in 1930, long after it had left Taurus, so every reading of this pair is modern or Bailey's. In Bailey's system Pluto is non-sacred and carries the destroyer aspect of the first ray. Taurus belongs to the fourth ray, harmony through conflict, ruled by Venus and at the soul level by Vulcan, the smith who forges desire into will. Put Pluto in that forge and it runs hot. What the sign wants to keep, the planet takes, and what survives the fire is will instead of appetite.
