What it looks like in a life
Neptune's sign is generational, shared with everyone born within a decade of you. The square to your Sun is what turns it into a daily problem instead of a background tone. You start things with real faith and lose the thread months in. You say yes when you meant no, then feel resentment build somewhere you cannot point to. You give to people who never asked and call it love. You have idealized at least one person past all evidence. Direction is the hard part, not effort. Alcohol, scrolling, fantasy, or somebody else's crisis all work as places to put the confusion.
The gift
You refuse the cheap version of a self. Plenty of people solve identity by picking a costume at twenty and defending it for fifty years. You cannot do that, and the inability is not weakness. It keeps you honest and it keeps you open to other people, so the compassion you end up with is earned instead of performed. When you do find the real thing, nobody will be able to talk you out of it.
The friction
Self-deception is the loop. You sacrifice and call it service, then feel invisible and cannot say why, because the giving was never requested. Boundaries feel like cruelty to you. Confusion becomes a hiding place, since a person who does not know what he wants never has to risk wanting it out loud. Meanwhile the years spend themselves.
The esoteric layer
Ptolemy counted the square hard, and Bailey's esoteric astrology does not soften it: the crosses indicate process and points of crisis, which makes squares the working part of a chart. Ninety degrees is the number four, spirit pressed into matter through friction. Neptune is absent from the ancient sources entirely. Bailey's system calls it sacred and gives it devotion, with glamour as its danger and the dissolving of the separate self as its aim. Squared to the Sun, that dissolving keeps arriving before there is a self solid enough to offer.
Where this goes
The houses involved say where the fog is thickest and what keeps getting handed away, and the rest of the chart says what is firm enough to stand on. Untangling that is what a therapeutic astrology session is built to do.
