You fight yourself first, every time, and then whatever is in front of you. The energy is real. The aim is the part that has cost you.
What it looks like in a life
You start strong and then trip over your own impatience. Authority sets your teeth on edge, and you have quit things over tone rather than substance. You hear a suggestion as a challenge and feel the heat rise before you have decided whether the person meant it that way. You overcommit physically, then crash. Competition wakes you up, and you have won things on sheer refusal to be beaten. There is usually a story in your history with a father, a coach, or a boss who pushed and a younger you who pushed back harder. You do your best work with something to push against.
The gift
You do not need favorable conditions. Resistance is fuel here, so you perform where comfortable people fold, and you keep going well past the point where a smoother chart would quit. Nothing about your strength was handed to you. You built it in arguments, in gyms, in jobs you were told you would not last in, and that kind of strength does not evaporate when the mood changes.
The friction
You spend force on the wrong targets. The anger is accurate about something, and it lands on whoever is closest. You mistake urgency for importance and burn a week of energy on a two-hour problem. When there is nothing to fight, you manufacture something, because the pressure has to go somewhere. The pattern repeats until you choose the enemy on purpose.
The esoteric layer
The square is harmonic four, the number of matter. Bailey's esoteric astrology calls the crosses process and points of crisis, and reads the square as the place where the personality gets ground into cooperation. It is the most productive aspect in a working chart. Mars in that system is the battlefield of desire, raw want being turned into spiritual will, while the older Hellenistic reading names it the lesser malefic, the heat that damages when nobody aims it. The square is the forge. You are not being punished. You are being trained.
Where this goes
The house of each planet says which arenas keep generating the fight, and the rest of the chart says where that force was meant to end up. A full natal reading puts the two in order.
