What it looks like in a life
You call a friend to figure out what you think. You are a good negotiator because you actually listen to the other side, then use their words back. The gift
You can hold two positions in your head honestly, which is why people trust you to be fair when something is at stake. You hear what someone means under what they said, then say it back clearly enough that they relax. You make agreements that hold. And you think better in company than most people do alone.
The friction
You outsource the decision. You gather one more opinion, then another, until the choice belongs to whoever spoke last. You argue the other person's side so well that your own goes unsaid, and then you are quietly furious about a deal you talked yourself into. And you can mistake being understood for being agreed with, which is how you end up in the same fight twice.
The esoteric layer
In the Hellenistic system the seventh place is the Setting, the angle where planets go down under the horizon, and the old sources gave it partnership and marriage. Open enemies came later, from the medieval astrologers. Mercury there is Hermes in his oldest public role: herald. He carried the messages between parties who could not speak directly, and the herald's staff made him untouchable while he did it. Esoterically Mercury is the planet that relates opposites to each other. In this house, the pair of opposites has a face and a name.
